"Be near me
When my light is low…"
- Lord Alfred Tennyson
The loss of a loved one presents us with one of the most profound challenges we face over the course of a lifetime. Grief is a necessary healing passage, an emotional and physical transition for which we can never truly prepare. Grief is not an event. It is not an illness. It is private and personal and complex. For all of the uncertainty, one thing holds true: people must process their pain in their own way, in their own time.
TrinityCare Hospice plays a special role in helping people cope with profoundly difficult processes - a life-threatening illness, the expected death, and surviving the loss of a loved one. With information, education and consistent support, participants of the Bereavement Program are able to work through their grief and make healthy adjustments to the changes in their lives.
TrinityCare Hospice staff and volunteers stay involved with our hospice families for 13 months after the patient's death to promote recovery and healing. During this period, we provide grieving family members with care, support and a safe place in which to express their sense of loss.
The Bereavement Services Director, counselors, volunteers and TrinityCare Hospice team members offer the following services for one year following the death.
Educational and support materials provided at regular intervals
Telephone support by a trained bereavement support volunteer at regular intervals
Visits by a TrinityCare Hospice clinical social worker, or referral to appropriate community resources
One-on-One support with needs assessment and referrals.
